چکیده

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite primers were developed for the tree species Genipa americana (Rubiaceae) for further population genetic studies. • METHODS AND RESULTS We identified 144 clones containing 65 repeat motifs from a genomic library enriched for (CT)8 and (GT)8 motifs. Primer pairs were developed for 32 microsatellite loci and validated in 40 individuals of two natural G. americana populations. Seventeen loci were polymorphic, revealing from three to seven alleles per locus. The observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.24 to 1.00 and from 0.22 to 0.78, respectively. • CONCLUSIONS The 17 primers identified as polymorphic loci are suitable to study the genetic diversity and structure, mating system, and gene flow in G. americana.

Microsatellite Isolation and Characterization in Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)

Development of microsatellite markers has been an increasing trend in crop genetic studies because oftheir applicability in breeding programs. Here we report the development of inter simple sequencerepeat (SSRs) in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) using an enrichment method that makes use of magneticbeads. Enriched genomic libraries with AG and ATG microsatellite motifs were c...

Preliminary analysis of expressed sequences of genes in Genipa americana L. plant roots exposed to cadmium in nutrient solution.

Many cell functions are redundantly executed in cells, and the experimental approaches that analyze the group of proteins, whose expression is modified in a specific functional condition, enable the identification of the group of proteins that are expressed under stress conditions. The objective of the present study was the evaluation of the genetic expression induced by cadmium (Cd) in Genipa ...

Chromosomal studies of species of Rubiaceae (A. L. de Jussieu) from the Brazilian cerrado

The chromosomes of 14 species belonging to two subfamilies of the family Rubiaceae collected in the Brazilian cerrado were studied. In the subfamily Ixoroideae, five species (Alibertia concolor, A. edulis, A. sessilis, Genipa americana and Tocoyena formosa) had a chromosome number of 2n = 22 and one (Amaioua intermedia) showed polyploidy, with 2n = 66. All of the chromosome numbers were multipl...

Isolation and characterization of 13 new microsatellite markers in the triangle mussel (Hyriopsis cumingii)

Microsatellite enriched library of Hyriopsis cumingii was constructed according to the strong affinity between biotin and streptavidin. One hundred clones with foreign inserts were sequenced and 65 clones were screened for usable microsatellites, of which 36 were deemed unique, of sufficient length (more than 8 repeats) and possessed adequate flanking regions for primer designment. Among 36 pri...
